Vancouver Neighbourhood Profile: Cedar Cottage

Vancouver Neighbourhood Profile: Cedar Cottage

Growing up in the city there are so many great aspects to each and every neighbourhood. The East Side of Vancouver is more relaxed, diverse and trendy. You will be amazed at all the different styles of houses, different restaurants, speciality shops and entertainment there is. I can tell you there is never a dull moment, East Vancouver is full of life.

If you are a young family or professional couple living in East Vancouver it offers a great community for a more affordable price. You are within walking distance to coffee shops, schools, transit and just a short drive into downtown Vancouver. In our first (but not last) Vancouver Neighbourhood Profile, I want to focus on one of our favourite up and coming areas: Cedar Cottage.

Cedar Cottage:

Technically speaking, Cedar Cottage is bordered by Fraser Street, Nanaimo Street, E. 41st and E. 16th. It’s this little cluster of homes that make this community so family friendly. There are community centres, shopping, schools and great parks to take the family. Cedar Cottage is growing more affordable then other parts of Vancouver offering a large potential for the rental market, for young professionals commuting into Downtown.

Why we love Cedar Cottage:

The best part of Cedar Cottage is the sense of community and safety.  You feel safe letting your children play in the backyard, and your surrounded by other young families who moved to the area for the same reason.

Another attribute to this little area is the growing popularity for restaurants, coffee shops and shopping. Best Places to eat: Prado Cafe, Le Marche St. George, Masa Yoshi Sushi, VeggieBowl, Earnest Ice Cream, Batard Bakery & Commodity Juicery. Grab a cup of coffee and walk to Glen Park to read your book on a Saturday morning. This quaint community has it all.

Real Estate in Cedar Cottage:

Many homes in Cedar Cottage have been renovated or torn down and rebuilt. Housing prices did rise over the last two years, and are remaining steady through these last few months. Cedar Cottage does have a couple developments of Carriage Homes which makes living close to the city more affordable for young couples and families.
